Connections’ No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS®) offers no interest loans for families and individuals on low incomes for the purchase of essential household goods.
Individuals and families on low incomes often find it difficult to purchase essential household and educational goods, being forced to either go without, or buy second hand and substandard items that need regular repairs.
Connections, with assistance from the National Australia Bank, seeks to provide loans to low income earners to help them purchase essential household goods, such as washing machines or fridges, as well as important health or educational goods, without the added burden of interest repayments.
To be eligible for a loan, you must:
- Be either a client of Connections, or a resident of the
City of Stonnington;
- Be the holder of a current Healthcare card or receiving
- Reside in your current location for a minimum of six months;
- Be willing and able to meet the repayments on your loan.
Loans are typically capped at $800 but amounts up to $1200 may be considered in special circumstances. Loans are paid off over a period of 18 months through fortnightly repayments and generally only new items are considered.
Connections acknowledges that the NILS® concept was developed by The Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service, which has accredited Connections to be a NILS® provider.
